Who can diagnose autism?
Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference that presents very differently across individuals. There is no blood work or medical test that can be used to diagnose autism. As such, diagnosing autism requires a formal developmental evaluation by a trained specialist who has expertise in autism and neurodevelopment. Examples of trained specialists qualified to conduct such evaluations may include licensed clinical psychologists, developmental pediatricians, psychiatrists, and/or pediatric neurologists.
