Frequently Asked Questions

How long is your waitlist for telehealth evaluations?
My goal is to get children and families seen as quickly as possible so that you can get the answers to the questions that you have and get your child the supports and services that they need in a timely manner. As such, you can expect to have your child scheduled for an evaluation within 1-3 weeks of contacting me.
How do you evaluate children via telehealth?
Evaluations for young children and/or children with limited spoken language involve a structured, play-based observation of the child that focuses primarily on interactions between the child and parent(s). Parents are asked to select a variety of toys and toy sets that they have available in the home. During the evaluation, I then guide parents to engage their child in a variety of play-based and social interactions so that I can observe how the child responds across various social contexts. This allows for me to observe for the occurrence or non-occurrence of behaviors consistent with an autism diagnosis.
For older and/or verbally fluent children, I conduct a structured interaction with the child directly through the camera. I engage the child in a variety of social interactions and activities to evaluate social communication skills and observe for features consistent or inconsistent with an autism diagnosis.
Do you offer flexible scheduling?
Yes, absolutely! As a parent myself, I understand how hectic and demanding the schedules of parents and children can be. I offer weekday appointments as well as some weekend appointments, so that your child does not have to miss school to be evaluated if that is a concern. I am also flexible about the time of day, as I can offer both morning and afternoon appointment slots.
What if I have other concerns for my child beyond autism?
I can definitely help with this! It is common that parents have concerns for their child beyond an autism diagnosis. Although the primary focus of my evaluations is autism, I can also evaluate and diagnose other concerns in the context of autism, such as global developmental delay, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety disorders (e.g., social anxiety, separation anxiety, selective mutism, specific phobia, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder), depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma/posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and behavior disorders/challenges. It is recommended that parents inform me ahead of time if there are concerns in any of these areas so that I can add additional measures as needed to thoroughly evaluate all areas of concern.
Do you take insurance?
No, I do not accept any insurance plans at this time. That said, I am happy to provide clients with a superbill (upon request) to assist in obtaining insurance reimbursement for my services (see next question to learn more about this topic).
What is a superbill and how does it work?
A superbill is an itemized document made for insurance companies that details the services that I have provided to your child/family. After paying for my services out-of-pocket, I can provide you with a superbill which you can then submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement (if your insurance provides this benefit). Your insurance company then reviews the claim and makes the decision as to whether to reimburse all, some, or none of the services.
